En Route
Travels in Landscape
En Route extends the idea of our immediate environment by foregrounding travel and movement, between places, across territories, and through different temporalities, as productive forces in the making of landscape. The production of 'landscape' in an expanded sense: not simply as a static view, but as something continually shaped by journeys, exchanges, and transitions.
The works in the exhibition operate like a montage, bringing together multiple layers of this expanded landscape and the events and processes unfolding across both local and global contexts. They prompt us to consider how people, plants, animals, weather systems, goods, and capital move (sometimes visibly, sometimes imperceptibly) across space and through time. These movements occur at different speeds and under shifting conditions, yet collectively they shape how we live, how we imagine the world, and how we act within it.
En Route uses the garden—historically linked to the tradition of landscape—as a conceptual point of departure, as a foil to explore some unexpected landscape models, to reflect on and investigate the ongoing processes of space and time we are subject to and are seeking to engage.
