Changeable Conditions
The processes, activities and spaces of the garden provide a challenge, reference or element of montage for the works included in Changeable Conditions. Here, weather becomes the model for a way of thinking about landscape as something in perpetual flux, never static, constantly evolving, endlessly unfolding, making new and unpredictable connections between multiple variables in the environment. The invited artists’ work engages with formal and conceptual states of transition, transformation, embracing unpredictability not only as subject matter but as a working process. Their works enter into a direct relationship with the garden but also allude to and trigger thoughts of how these changeable and unpredictable processes operate in other, wider environmental, cultural and systemic spheres.
