The Salt, the Milk, the Honey

Title: The Salt, the Milk, the Honey

Date: 2024

Artist: Bill Burns

Exhibition: En Route, 2024

From press release:

The Salt, the Milk, the Honey is a kind of enactment of mercantile trade. A bunsen burner is set up at the work table. A Donkey fetches a bag of salt, a goat brings a bottle of milk, while a bee carries a jar of honey. Now the three elements are mixed together at the work table while a violinist provides incidental music. Now after some heating and stirring the mixture is poured into a fresh bottle. Now it is announced that the three elements have been combined.

From artist:

This is a project about milk and honey and salt and global trade. Part of my goal is to replace the logic of speed or acceleration and its corollary cruelty with the logic of dreams, children singing, goats bleating, bees buzzing, donkeys walking, honey dripping and violins playing. This is a thing I'm trying to get right.

The project proposes to replace the acceleration and speed, the logic of advanced industrialisation, with a new logic of vacuum cleaners sucking plastic from the sea, bees buzzing, children singing, flowers bloomig, donkeys walking, goats bleating, and honey dripping.
