Rosy Head

Title: Hot Land Proxy

Date: 2012

Medium: Photographic prints and garden stakes

Artist: Rosy Head

Exhibition: Changeable Conditions, 2012

From press release:

Rosy Head’s series of photographs is of a landscape photographed in near-darkness, digitally enhanced to reveal the information captured at the camera’s technological limits. From a distance the installation mimics the plant plaques in the garden, but when looked at more closely, the landscape images emerge. The photographs reveal an almost painterly re-characterisation of the material environment, as the camera and the landscape negotiate between materiality and abstraction.

From artist:

Rosy Head’s series of photographs are of a landscape photographed at night. From a distance the installation mimics the plant plaques in the garden, but when looked at more closely the landscape images emerge. Initially almost black, the photographs are enhanced to reveal the expanded exchange of energy and information between camera and land, an attunement to other markers and carriers of communication far beyond the human eye. A loss of resolution is replaced by a more painterly characterisation, as these non-human actors negotiate between materiality and abstraction.
