Caught Up, 2012 Concept Janette Parris & Tariq Alvi

Caught Up is a contemporary opera and is a collaboration between visual artists Janette Parris & Tariq Alvi and musician Chris Gregory. The opera tackles issues such as inequality, the disenfranchised, the dynamics of groups and uses as its backdrop the recent English civil unrest.

From the artist:

Caught Up is a contemporary opera and is a collaboration between visual artists Janette Parris, Tariq Alvi and composer Chris Gregory. The opera uses gallows humour to tackle issues such as inequality, the disenfranchised, the group mentality and how a split second decision can determine the rest of your life. It uses as its backdrop the recent English urban riots.

For the contribution to Changeable Conditions the technology consisted of a simple ipod and earphones, but ultimately with the project we were trying to explore the language of opera - tragedy, narrative, fiction, and spectacle.
