From artist:

Operating as both artwork and directive, listen shifts attention from sight to sound, heightening one’s awareness of the surrounding environment.
The work invites viewers to attune to the acoustic and atmospheric qualities of the space.
Drawing on the visual language of neon signage, it balances poetic gesture with functional instruction, recalling the authority of public signage while redirecting it toward sensory attention. Site-responsive in nature, its placement shapes its resonance within any given location.

Evette is a development from a work produced for an exhibition in Harewood House. It was a response to the sculpture Adam by Jacob Epstein which stands at its entrance.  Eve, a golden tree, was installed in the landscaped gardens of Capability Brown.

Evette and listen

Here in Mecklenburgh Square Garden, we wanted to re-summon  Eve in dialogue with the piece ‘listen’.
listen draws the eye down to the earth and the microcosms of activity beneath our feet, Evette pulls the eye upward without drama into the canopy level of the gardens set against the sky.
The golden leaf completes the cycle of interactions which predicts the inevitable autumnal shift of growth and upward aspiration to decay and renewal.
