Title: Just Between You and Me (Mrs. R.H. Tawney and Co.)

Date: 2013

Medium: Colour photocopies

Artist: Judith Dean

Exhibition: Outside of Outside, 2013

From artist:

…it was in response to the memorial plaque at the bottom of the tree to Mrs. R.H. Tawney, wife of the economic historian, social critic, reformer, etc, etc. I’d just started working with printed images during a residency at Beaconsfield, London, still trying to find a way into painting. The printer was running out of ink and the green monochrome images are of an Italian military bicycle troop (with folding bicycles…) coming over the top of a hill. There were four different images altogether, each repeated twice - the blue monochrome is of Mr. Tawney. I hung them corner to corner, thinking of them as kind of A4 pixels, layered / slotted into place both behind and in front of the hanging space set up by Giorgio.
